Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering now offers an online Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Regularly offered courses cover fundamental engineering sciences and special topic courses expose students to state-of-the-art research topics. The department has offered graduate degrees since 1895 and currently has over 100 full- and part-time students.
Advance Your Career, Online or On-Campus
The online Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering has exactly the same curriculum and requirements as the on-campus program. Online students can complete the MS as a 100% online degree or combine classroom and online courses.
Courses start in the Fall (September) and Spring (January). Online students access an Internet based course site for all course materials and interactions.

Admission Requirements
For the MS degree, applicants should have a BS in mechanical engineering or in a related field (i.e., other engineering disciplines, physics, mathematics, etc.).
The GRE is recommended but not required. TOEFL is required for all students whose native language is not English. For further information on the admission process and requirements, see Office of Graduate Admissions.
Taking Courses Prior to Program Admission
Students can take up to four courses before admission into the program. These courses will transfer upon admission into the MS. Admitted students are given registration preference so non-degree students are encouraged to seek admission.
