Four Courses

The graduate certificate consists of a cluster of four thematically related fire protection engineering courses. The specific courses are determined in conjunction with an academic advisor and are chosen from the graduate level courses that comprise the Master of Science program. Up to two courses taken at WPI prior to formal admission may be counted toward the certificate. All courses taken for the graduate certificate may be later applied toward the master's degree in fire protection engineering.

Background Requirements

Applicants for admission to the graduate certificate programs should hold at least a B.S. degree in engineering (or equivalent), engineering technology or the physical sciences. Additionally, an academic background in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and differential equations is needed. Applicants from other related disciplines may be asked to take selected undergraduate courses to round out their backgrounds.

Students, in consultation with their faculty advisor, develop a Plan of Study for all certificate programs.
